Presence sans Presence

Presence sans Presence

In the pathways of now and then, in the abandoned places and non-places, residential complexes, hotels, malls, and deserted buildings, it is me, myself whom is being looked for…
The places, the presence of which was dependent on presence of man, are now left in sense of his presence…
The trend of each presence is repeated in the circle of repetition…
Feelings, manners, feelings, manners…
Years, years, and years ago…
Now, and now…
Years, and years, and years later…

The performances were done in a deserted hotel called “Grand Hotel” in my hometown employing Chroma Key technics and the final video was displayed along with a photo series of the same hotel by Mehdi Vosoughnia.

Grand Hotel
At Pahlavi era and under the governorship of Sa’dossaltane, Grand Hotel was constructed in central Qazvin, western wing of Chehel Sotun Palace, by the well-known architect of Qazvin, Ostad (Master) Ali July. This building is one of the oldest remaining hotels in the whole country. According to the travelers who have personally resided in the hotel and based on the itineraries, all the furniture and appliances of the hotel have had a European style and interior decoration have been fully luxurious. According to the history, Grand Hotel has been a place of political incidents such as Reza Khan’s coup d’etat plan.
